Green Square Capital Advisors, Boston (“GSCA Boston”), was founded in October 2016 by the former tax-exempt high yield team from Oppenheimer Asset Management.

Timothy Pynchon, CFA
Timothy Pynchon, CFA
Partner, Tax-Exempt Strategies

Timothy Pynchon, CFA founded Green Square Capital Advisors, Boston in October 2016. Although no longer an Oppenheimer Asset Management employee, Tim continues to manage the funds and separately managed accounts, working under a long-term sub advisory contract for Oppenheimer. Prior to this recent move, Tim joined Oppenheimer Asset Management in June 2013 and has worked in asset management since 1982.

Throughout his career, Tim has been responsible for investments in municipal bond portfolios and select taxable fixed income strategies. Within tax-exempt, Tim has focused primarily on high yield investments and has served as a portfolio manager, underwriter, analyst and restructuring specialist.  Previously, Tim had worked at Pioneer investment Management since 2000 as a Senior Vice President, first as a senior analyst and then as a Portfolio Manager for both open-end and closed-end funds. Prior  to Pioneer, Tim underwrote high yield tax-exempt health care issues for three years as a Managing Director at Commerce Capital Markets and served as a high yield analyst and restructuring specialist at Eaton Vance Management for the seven years prior to Commerce Capital Markets.

Tim earned his Bachelor’s degree at Hamilton College and his M.B.A. from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. He also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute and is a member of both the CFA institute and the CFA Society of Boston.

Joseph Gulli joined Green Square Capital Advisors in October 2016 as a partner and head of credit research, ensuring that the management team for the funds and the separately managed accounts remains intact.  Prior to this recent move, Joe had joined    Oppenheimer Asset Management in November 2014 and has worked in asset management since 1992. Throughout his career, Joe has concentrated primarily on high yield and investment grade tax exempts, including analysis and restructurings.

Joe brings expertise in both high yield and investment grade tax exempts, as well distressed credits and restructurings.  Joe is responsible for a wide range of sector and credit analysis, continuing surveillance of credits, and buy and sell recommendations.

Prior to starting at OAM, Joe was at Lord Abbett & Co. for seven years, most recently as Partner and Director of Municipal Bond Research at Management.  Prior to Lord Abbett, Joe worked for SMC Fixed Income Management for one year after working as a tax-exempt analyst for 14 years at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.

Joe earned his Bachelor’s degree at Rider University in accounting and finance.

Tony Clarizio joined Green Square Capital Advisors in April 2017 as Manager, Marketing and Client Relations. Tony has worked in asset management since 1986. Throughout his extensive career in strategic marketing, product management/development and client service, Tony has focused on open-end, closed-end and institutional tax exempt strategies, both high yield and investment grade. Additionally, he has covered taxable fixed income strategies including core and core-plus (multi-sector), high yield corporate and floating rate.

Tony comes to Green Square from Mercer Investment Consulting as Manager of Product Development and Strategy. Prior to Mercer, he was at Pioneer Investments for 18 years working in marketing, product management and relationship management, both in the U.S. and offshore. Before Pioneer, Tony was at MFS Investment Management for 12 years as head of offshore marketing and relationship management. His time at MFS was highlighted by a two year expatriate assignment to Bahrain where he managed all aspects of MFS’ Middle East business. At the time, Tony was the first MFS employee to be relocated overseas.

Tony earned his Bachelor’s degree from Boston University and is a member of the Ibbotson/Morningstar Advisory Council and the Capital Link Forum on closed end funds.

With over 25 years of experience, Darrell serves in a strategic advisory role with Green Square clients advising on investment strategies to meet family’s long-term objectives.  He also serves as a trusted advisor and consultant regarding private business strategies ranging from exit options, recapitalization strategies, shareholder strategies and other needs as they arise.  He has been instrumental in assisting families with pre- and post-transaction issues ranging from pre-sale estate planning to post-sale investment strategy and implementation. Darrell is also the co-founder of Center Coast Capital Advisors, a mid-stream energy investment management firm headquartered in Houston, Texas, with over $4 billion under management.

Prior to founding Green Square in 2001, he held positions at Goldman Sachs in the Fixed Income Currencies and Commodities division covering U.S. based financial institutions. In his role at Goldman, Darrell worked intimately with depository portfolio managers assisting them in portfolio structure and asset hedging strategies. In 1999, Darrell moved to the Private Client Services unit in the Investment Management Division of Goldman Sachs advising ultra-high net worth families and family offices on portfolio construction and investment strategies.   Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Darrell served as the Senior Vice President and Manager of the Investment Services Division of SunTrust Bank and the Executive Vice President  and  head  of  Capital  Markets  and  a  member  of  the  Executive  Management  Committee for First American Bank in Nashville, Tennessee.

Darrell   received   his   Bachelor   of   Science   in Finance  from  Mississippi  State  University  and a  Master  of  Arts  in  Economics  from  Vanderbilt University.  Darrell holds the series 65 and 63 licenses.

Richard manages the operations of Green Square, responsible for financial reporting, executing strategic initiatives, and creating, monitoring, and testing policies. He was also the CFO and CCO of Center Coast Capital Advisors in Houston, TX. He has overseen open-end mutual fund launches, Private Funds, and Fund of hedge Funds. Before joining Green Square & Center Coast in 2009, he was an executive vice president at the Spectra Group (real estate development) and he started his career at Ernst & Young in finance and accounting.

Richard received his Bachelor of Arts from Rhodes College and his Master of Business Administration from the Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt University.

Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer

James West, CFA is a member of Green Square’s Investment Committee and is responsible for overseeing the research and implementation of the asset allocation process.  James and his team are responsible for the sourcing, due diligence and ongoing monitoring of all Green Square’s approved managers.  He also manages client relationships with a particular emphasis on institutional entities.  James joined Green Square in 2006 after working 10 years within First Tennessee Bank’s Trust Department.

He left First Tennessee Bank as Senior Vice President and was the Trust Investment Manager for West Tennessee, Nashville and Mid-Atlantic regions, managing approximately $900 million in assets.  James received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Virginia.  He is a CFA charter holder.

Morgan is responsible for insuring a high-quality work product is delivered to our clients by providing support to the Investment Team as well as the Client Service Teams. She works with the teams to ensure all compliance requirements are being met and is responsible for identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and works to develop corrective actions for resolution of those issues. She assists the teams in a number of other operational areas. Prior to joining Green Square, she worked as Operations manager within the Portfolio Reporting department of Raymond James Financial. Morgan received a Bachelor of Business in Finance, with an emphasis in investment banking, from the University of Memphis and holds a Series 99 license.
